Dental veneers or most popularly known as porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates typically are colored similar to your teeth and are used cover the front surface of teeth to improve one’s appearance. It is considered to be the most effective restorative procedures to rectify teeth that are chipped, stained or discolored performed by a cosmetic dentist.
Veneers Are Made either of:
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers have a better resistance to stain. Its substance is highly favored because of its strength and durability. This could last up to 25 years if well looked after with professional care. It also has the ability to reflect light and match natural teeth.
Composite Veneers
The Composite Veneers are thinner and may require the removal of the tooth surface before replacement. It can also offer an equal standard of improvement to appearance just like porcelain. But because they are cheaper they are less durable and may need replacement more often.
Veneers can make tooth natural and healthy because they are very thin and are held in place by a strong adhesive. It only requires very little preparation. It can improve color, shape and position of your teeth as well and it offers the best way to close small gaps, fix minor twists or even overlaps.
A veneer procedure takes at least two visits. The first visit prepares the patient tooth/teeth to match its shade with the veneer. Your cosmetic dentist fits the veneer to the patient on the second visit, and he will show you the veneer on your tooth before applying the special adhesive with a photo of how your new smile will look. This is called cosmetic imaging. Once it fits, only minor adjustment can be made and your cosmetic dentist may want to check and polish it a week or so after.
In a recent survey, veneers can cost as little as $500 each to over $2000. Dental Veneers are only applied to enhance the appearance of the teeth or hide dental flaws. It is a cosmetic procedure that in any way cannot restore the function or strength of the affected teeth. Oral hygiene is still always recommended in maintaining veneers especially porcelains thus a regular check up with your cosmetic dentist is a must.
